Have you ever looked through a fashion magazine and thought, “I could totally design my own dress!” Have you ever looked at clothes in stores and thought, “I like that but maybe it would look better like this….” Then maybe its time to put your ideas to the test!
Since we’re all currently on lockdown, for the month of April Blush have teamed up with our favourite Designer, Kevan Jon, to launch a competition whereby you could actually have your own design included in Kevan’s next collection. Imagine that! Seeing your design idea brought to life and worn by real people. Are you interested??
How do I get started?
Firstly, make sure your following us on Instagram (@Blushboutiquebelfast and @kevanjonfashion)
Next – consider who you are designing for. Is this dress something you NEED to have in your wardrobe? Is this dress the piece that you have been searching for and could never quite find? Or will this dress be for someone else? Maybe your designing for your lovely mother, or sister, a best friend or girlfriend?
Finally – consider where this dress will be worn? Is this the ultimate LBD? Maybe you need the perfect Hen Party Outfit of something for the day after the wedding? Maybe you’re a guest at a wedding and you need something completely unique. Maybe you’re designing for Mother of the Bride. Or maybe you want to design your own Wedding Dress! All options are open. We are not putting a restriction on what you want to design!
How do I Enter?
All you have to do is sketch your outfit design and upload it to your Insta stories. You can talk us through your design. Think about the fabric and colour choices. You could also include a mood board to show your inspiration for the design. Be as creative as you want to. And don’t forget, you must tag us on your stories (@blushboutiquebelfast and @kevanjonfashion) to make sure your entry is included in the competition.
This competition is open to everyone. And feel free to enter as many designs as you wish. Final date to show us your designs is 30th April. This is your time to get creative!
What happens next?
This competition will run until the end of April and we have a panel of judges involved, including (of course) the designer himself, Kevan Jon. Our favourite designer has dressed several celebrities for their red carpet events (including “Derry Girl” Jamie-Lee O’Donnell, Love Island star Gabby Dawn Allen, Strictly Come Dancing Star Catherine Tyldesley, and singer Fleur East to name a few). This is the man who designs for real women and if anyone can bring your design to life, its him!
Our second judge is Award Winning Make-Up Artist, Paddy McGurgan. Paddy is one of the UK’s leading Fashion, Bridal and Creative Make-Up Artists with an impressive 20 years experience in the fashion industry. When training his Make-Up students, Paddy organises and styles full Fashion and Editorial shoots. He pays great attention to detail and loves unique beauty. We’re delighted to have Paddy on our judging panel!
Next on the panel is Former Miss Northern Ireland, Fitness, Fashion & Lifestyle Blogger, Estate Agent, Model and Champion Sailor…..Tiffany Brien. Tiffany knows exactly what style suits her and has previously collaborated with Kevan Jon on a design for the dress she wore to the Miss NI Final in 2018. Who could forget that acid yellow dress which has since become one of Kevans best selling styles – The Tiffany Ball Maybe your design will be the next best selling dress in Kevans new collection!
Our final judge is Cathy Martin. Celebrating her 30th season of Belfast Fashion Week later this year, Cathy is the Queen of Fash-un in Belfast. She has worked with Blush since we opened in 2005 and so is the perfect partner for our “Design Your Ultimate Party Dress” Competition.
Our judges will shortlist their top 3 favourite designs from all entries and these top 3 will go head to head for public votes on the Blush Instagram page (1 like = 1 vote). The design with the most votes will be announced the winner. It’s that simple!
What’s the Prize again?
The designer of the winning entry will win £250 plus have their very own creation produced as part of the Kevan Jon, new season collection. The dress will be sold EXCLUSIVELY through Blush and will also be available for general sale nationwide through our website. It goes without saying the designer will also have their outfit made for them and we will be inviting the winner to model their design at our rescheduled Kevan Jon Fashion Lunch where Kevan showcases his newest collection (date to be confirmed). How could you not want to enter this competition?!
This is a strange time for everyone at the minute. Covid-19 has taken away all sense of normality. Special events have been cancelled or postponed and we are all staying at home and keeping away from our loved ones in order to prevent the spread of this cruel virus. But we need to keep ourselves positive, we need to keep ourselves occupied and we hope this competition will encourage some creativity for you all. And for the winner, it will be something to look forward to – having your own fashion design made a reality.
