Taking it back to 2005
While the Blush team were in full flow of organising the opening of the new boutique – what were you doing in 2005?
Back in 2005 we were heading to the cinema to see Will Smith in Hitch, Kiera Knightley in Pride & Prejudice and Johnny Depp in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
On TV Ken Barlow married Deirdre (again) the day before the royal wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles. Desperate Housewives attempted to fill the void left by the departure of Sex and the City and the SATC shoe box gift set was the gift of choice.
On the runway – Roberto Cavalli sent Daria Werbowy and Gemma Ward down the catwalk in tiny leather bikini tops, voluminous floral print skirts and embroidered waistcoats. Kate Moss was the face of his ad campaign and the high street scrambled to replicate this hot ‘boho’ look.
Our style icon was queen of boho chic Sienna Miller with her tousled blonde locks and laid back style. It was all about the low slung look with hipster jeans and flowy full length gypsy skirts worn with neat vest tops and a plaited belt on the hips.
2005 was a mixed year for music. ‘Is this the way to Amarillo’ by Tony Christie featuring Peter Kay for Comic Relief got all ages up on the dancefloor at family gatherings and Axel F’s Crazy Frog was funny for all of five minutes. The Arctic Monkeys burst onto the indie music scene with ‘You look good on the dancefloor’
In belfast we were shaking our booty to The Pussy Cat Dolls ‘Dontcha’ and Madonna’s ‘Hung Up’ at The Apartment and The Chemical Brothers ‘Push and the button’ and ‘Galvanise’ raised the roof at the new VIP club of the moment – The Soap Bar at The Potthouse.
